I became a success coach because of a powerful lesson I learned from my own personal and professional lives.

I learned that when I make choices from my True Self, and not my ego, fear and resistance disappear. The success and learning I experience from making empowered choices feeds my passion and gives me the motivation to strive for more. I want to share what I’ve learned with others.

I had had a Marriage and Family Therapy practice for 5 years when I met my current partner, the man of my dreams. He was a successful businessman, loving, and full of passion. When we met, I was happy with my practice. I felt gifted at helping people overcome their emotional problems. I had a fulfilling job and made enough money to do the things I love on a regular basis.

I did not however feel in control of the business side of my practice. One night he asked me, “Do you want to feel like you decide how many clients you have and how much money you make?” Of course I did, but that did not seem realistic to me. After all, I had already achieved everything I could have imagined in life. But he insisted that anyone could be in control of their success, as long as they defined it and took steps to go after it.

I started thinking about his words and dreaming of feeling in charge of my business. For the first time, I asked others for advice on how to achieve my new goal of having control over how many clients I had and how much money I made.

The advice I got had a theme: Network, Network, and Network. I don’t know about you, but “Networking” as a concept made my mind, or what I identify as my “ego,” go crazy. Negative thoughts filled my mind: I am an introvert… I am not good at “selling myself”… I hate networking! I would rather spend an afternoon at the dentist!...I DO NOT want anyone to feel pressure to refer me business… I only want to help people who want help…If I call other professionals, they will think I am desperate…I started this career to help people, NOT to become rich…My job is too stressful and time consuming to have the energy to do anything else…I just want to coast and have fun… Everything is good enough as it is…

The truth was, my ego was trying to protect me from my fear of putting myself out there and feeling vulnerable. What I knew from helping so many others overcome their fears was that if I made decisions about the future of my business from fear I would be left living a life within boundaries that I created.

When I started to connect my decisions to what I actually wanted-- I call this finding my True Self-- I felt my fear and resistance disintegrate. Instead, I felt excitement for the new possibilities: I could help more people, I could go on more vacations, I could choose my clients, and most importantly I could get rid of the pit in my stomach about whether or not my business was going to succeed in the future.

When I experienced the positive feelings of connecting to my goal, I also felt the motivation inside of me build and begin to break through the barriers my ego had set up.

I asked myself, “What is the first step I can take that feels manageable and simple?” With the help of a coach, I set up a personalized program for myself to meet my goals. It only took me one to two hours per week. The strength I obtained from this exercise motivated me to strive for more. I continued to work with a business coach who helped me get clearer about my goals and held me accountable to them each week.

In three months time, the negative voice in my head was getting quieter, I was excited thinking about my next steps, and the pit in my stomach was replaced with pure joy.

Two years later, I had doubled my income, was handpicking my clients, and knew that I had figured out something for myself that I wanted to pass on to the world. My coach not only helped me with my business goals, but she trained me to coach others. I enrolled in a coaching program and became a certified success coach. I am now one lean, mean motivation machine. Now, not only do I have extensive training and experience in helping people work through their emotional challenges, but I have also figured out how to help people create success in their lives by reaching their full potential.
